Clutch Slave Cylinder

A clutch slave cylinder (CSC) is a component of a vehicle's hydraulic clutch systemIt's a key part of a manual transmission system, allowing drivers to change gears.

When a driver presses the clutch pedal, the CSC moves pressure plates to disengage the clutch from the car's engine. The CSC transfers hydraulic pressure from the clutch master cylinder to the clutch release fork.
Signs of a bad clutch slave cylinder include:
  • Soft clutch pedal: The pedal won't push back as hard to re-engage the transmission.
  • Spongy or sporadic pressure: The clutch pedal may feel spongy or the pressure may be sporadic when depressing or releasing the pedal.
  • Difficulty shifting gears: The clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder work together to help the car shift gears. If the CSC is damaged, you may have trouble shifting gears.
  • Grinding noises: A bad CSC can cause grinding noises when shifting gears because it's not releasing the clutch properly.
  • Clutch slipping: A bad CSC can cause the clutch to slip.
The most common reason for clutch master and slave cylinder failure is contamination of the hydraulic fluid or using the wrong type of hydraulic fluid.
